Work Permit Applications

A work permit is required for non-residents seeking employment and residency in the Cayman Islands. Before an employee arrives in Cayman, the respective employer must apply for a work permit on behalf of the employee to the Cayman Islands Government Department of Workforce Opportunities and Residency Cayman (WORC).

A prospective expatriate employee must provide the employer with specific documentation to be included in the application. Noteworthy, it is the financial obligation of the employer to pay for all work permits and immigration-related fees. It’s important to remember that a prospective employee may not reside in the Cayman Islands when the application is submitted. In exceptional circumstances, only the Director of WORC may exercise discretion to accept an application where the prospective employee is already in the Islands.

Let PMC 345 Consultancy help you with your work permit application. Making an application for a work permit can be complex. If you do not know how to navigate the complexities, it can be challenging. We can help you navigate these complexities and ensure that you are well advised and prepared.

The two main types of work permits:

Temporary Work Permit (TWP)
Temporary Work Permit (TWP) A temporary permit usually takes 5-10 business days to process and may be granted for no more than six months. The applicant cannot be a current resident in the Cayman Islands during the application process.

A prospective employee will need to meet the immigration requirements, which include but are not limited to a clean police clearance certificate from the country from which you are coming from. You will be expected to complete a full medical, which includes HIV and VDRL testing.

Yearly work permit (YWP)

Yearly Work Permit Grant
A yearly work permit grant allows you to reside and work in the Cayman Islands for up to three years, and this work permit may take up to two months to be decided on. All accompanying dependents must be included on the work permit application, and dependents over 18 must provide a medical questionnaire and a police clearance certificate. If you wish to bring your family with you, you must ask PMC345 Consultancy on the process of doing so. There may be a fee for adding dependents to a work permit. However, the employer is not legally expected to pay this fee, and it must be agreed upon between the employer/employee responsible for paying this fee.

The requirements for this type of application are more demanding. PMC345 Consultancy will take the demand away from you.

Standard Term Limit

Work Permit holders can work and reside in the Cayman Islands for up to nine years. Once a person reaches the term limit, they must either apply for permanent residency or leave the Cayman Islands for a minimum of a year. You can only apply for permanent residence during your 8th year on the Island.
